Vocabulary : How to prepare this section
SSC aspirants find it very difficult to get good marks in the vocabulary section of SSC CGL examination . It covers a total of 60-65 marks in Tier I and Tier II of the examination (15+50), which is actually the lion's share .
Before starting the preparation one has to know what are the sub-topics of this section :
i) Synonyms,Antonyms
ii) Homophones
iii) One word substitutions
iv) Idioms .
v) Phrasal Verbs .
vi) Spellings . etc
Now, I shall present two different strategies for preparing the vocabulary section :
1) "5 words per day theory". This strategy works for those guys and girls who are punctual and are good at following strict routines. This strategy is the most common one and we have been knowing it for years but there are only a few students who actually follow this strategy.
For example : 5 synonyms, 5 antonyms, 5 one word substitutions, 5 homophones, 5 idioms, 5 phrasal verbs every single day . It requires one hour a day and plus a 15 minutes revision time for last day's vocabularies .
This strategy is certainly the best one but it is of no use for those who are not capable of being regular and punctual at anything . Such guys and girls are required to follow the strategy number 2 .
2) Decide a minimum threshold for everyday i.e. 50 or 75 or 100 as per your capacity and stick to it . Let us take an example : take a set of '75' idioms for a day and learn it, write it and try to memorise it . And the very next day, before starting a new set of vocabulary revise the vocabulary set of the last day . This strategy actually works for mediocre students .
*Note- When you are not regular, you cannot see any considerable increase in your vocabulary database by following "5 words per day theory" and day by day the zeal to learn vocabulary is lost, so choose strategy 1 only if you are actually a disciplined hard worker .
!! All the Best !!
